Remember Mary Barbour
The following images were taken at the unveiling of a statue to commemorate Mary Barbour on the 8th March 2018 at Govan Cross in the south side of Glasgow. Mary Barber is best remembered as a socialist campaigner who challenged the 1915 rent increases and brought about rent strikes in many parts of the country. Her followers became known as "Mary Barber's Army". The government of the day could not withstand her campaign and by the end of 1915 the Rent Restriction Act was in place. Mary Barber died aged 83 in 1958. Joe Munro Queen’s Park Camera Club |
